Dance is something most people don’t think of going to class for. Others may see dance strictly as something to be done only by professionals. Myself I have been interested in dance since I could walk.
I have done dance classes, danced on stage since I was 16 before leaving the performance lifestyle. Now I just go to dance classes to have fun, I present research papers on dance and help people to use it as a part of healing.
Whether bally dancers, salsa, African beats, tango, polish dances street beats or Hindu story telling dance, ALL DANCE IS FUN AND HEALING. The naughty minds reading this may start to think of pole and strip dances. The truth is, no matter its form dance is a gift and an art so long as it is directed to the right audience.
Please, as a side note we are not doing strip dances at the Soul Spa. Haha, if you`re here for that, wrong location honey.
dances at the Soul Spa. Hahaha, if you`re here for that, wrong location.Dance is something most people don’t think of going to class for. Like all means of creative expressions, dance is incorporated into some forms of therapy, healing and mental level up. In the same way that painting, journaling, writing and other forms of arts can channel trauma, and negative emotions into positive ones, dance does the same and perhaps it is one of the more portent forms. This is because when we dance, the conscious thinking mind can completely be quiet and the subconscious mind takes over.
The subconscious mind controls around 90percent of our everyday life. It is our auto pilot, where our behaviours, habits, our emotions, trauma and past memories lie.
How we react to anger, frustration, loss, sexuality, joy, and so on is trapped in the subconscious programming of our brains. To learn more about this, join the membership here at the Soul Spa.
On another note, think of the last time you walked from school or the office to the house without much thought to it, perhaps you were on the phone or your thoughts were on another issue. Yeah, that’s your subconscious, taking over for you baby.
To open the subconscious mind, let it flow and shine a light on the usually deep emotions within it, is to find true healing. That is often the goal of mental level up and therapy or counselling, to unlearn the unhealthy patterns trapped in our subconscious minds. When we dance, to put it simply, we flow. Thoughts seize and we focus on the present. Time stops and all expressions become emotional embodiments. Pleasure, pain, anxiety, tension, happiness, anger, joy, peace can all flow through us, and out of us, through our dance movements. From that calm space, we can begin to create even more of the abundance most of us are seeking in our life, through our goals.
For women, it is important to dance often because it helps us to connect us to our softer feminine, to kindness, empathy, our kids, communities, our men, and each other.
Dance allows us to just be instead of always doing, to stop taking ourselves so seriously, which is a really great state for the female body. For men dance provides an escape from daily realities, tensions decisions and other burdens, a way to be less rigid and serious all the time, a stress reliever, a way to access emotions, a way to be more compassionate and kinder. For people with mental trauma, dance reconnects the body to the mind, helps them learn mindfulness which is really important, helps them express painful feelings and ultimately to love their bodies again and to heal.
In the end, whether we are watching or dancing ourselves, the mind is being quietened while pleasure, happiness and positive feelings takes over. Dance is also a form of exercise so when we dance the brain releases chemicals that promote wellbeing and happiness, similar to those produced during love making, when we are in love or when a mother/father nurtures a child.
Dance, though it involves movements, is really a state of being where thoughts stop and emotions flow because you are present with your body by focusing on its movement. To use dance as therapy does not have to be complicated but it can benefit from some professional guidance. To see how we do this, and watch our exclusive weekly dance videos, consider becoming a Patreon as those videos are made exclusive to Patreons only.
The next time you see someone shake their body to a beat, consider joining in no matter how ridiculous you think you are or just stop to watch and applaud them.
As a Patreon, you get weekly exclusive dance videos from our team, both behind the scenes at dance studios and actual dance therapy forms.
I hope this post encourages you to be more free and present in life, dance more, join our classes or become a Patreon, so that together we all can move and flow….to more abundance and ultimately, we can all just be….by choosing to dance.
